I like to say that as far as the VW logo chrome hubcaps that I bought some
at a aircooled show. These where the German metal ones. Which are
"supposedly" more rust resistant that ones made elsewhere, anyhow. The
biggest issue in buying these is the grease cap on the front drivers side
that has a nipple for the speedo cable. Said nipple makes non-vanagon
chrome-dog-dish hubcaps not fit correctly.
However, with all things there are work around. I could not understand why
the caps would fit the other 3 wheels but bit this one....anyhow that
nipple is just tall enough that it pushes the cap off. It was suggested
that I remove the speedo cable connection at the grease cap, Massage the
cap with a ball point, pin hammer then use a the same hammer with a punch
on the reverse side of the chrome cap that will be use on that side. This
creates a dimple. That is all you want a dimple. The best way that I figure
to do this was either with 2 sand bags on either side of the cap for
support leaving the middle portion free to accept the blow of the punch and
hammer......
Fit dimpled cap on vanagon and presto.....I got 2 of these caps at that
show for $20 bucks so I did the extra work.....but just like trying to make
gelatin from scratch the easy way is to for over the $ and buy these caps
from one of the vendors:

Buying retro 14" hubcaps from another vehicle...I have seen some Tbird ones
that rocked...but fitment in mind as the grease cap is the Hizzy
