I once had a shift lever fall out of a car I was driving. Slipped right out through the floor without me noticing till I grabbed for it at the first stop. A Hurst floor shift conversion for an old Ford Falcon sedan delivery (like an early PT Cruiser or somesuch) that I used to commute down a 19 mile washboard road.. I think I "repaired" it with two vice grips.
