And once you go "after-market" you get to practice often. It really isn't that bad.

LOL ...
yes the VW Fox was made in Brazill.
I can say this ..
don't ever ever change a clutch cable on one.
it's beyond nighmarishly difficult.
they are probably hard to kill..
but you also don't see any of them around alive anymore. See more early Rabbits for sure.
Actually ..some Renault models are excellent.
the Dauhpine is a joke for our market . In perfect running order one
can not sustain freeway speeds on a hot day without overheating.
the next up ....those R8's and R10's ....'not bad' for what they are.
a super excellent model of Renault though is the R16.
It's a 'large economy car' ..with hatchback.
Aluminum engine ....70 hp, will cruise all day long at 85 mph.
Tons of room in them.
therear seats come right out without tools, or even swing up and hang from the rear ceiling like if you suddenly have some big load to carry on the long floor area.
I paid $ 250 for my first one, a 70.
1970 is an extra good year in foreign cars..
there are almost no smog devices at all on them ..a slight delay back to idle on the throttle is all.
Otherwise they run just like the factory meant them too.
My 1970Mercedes 2.5 liter inline 6 gas sedan is like that ..zero smog equipment..runs like they meant it too.
my 70 Renuult 16
got 36.5 mpg at 65 to 70 mph consistently.
if I flogged it it got 34 mpg.
I had a 72 after that..
it was never as light and 'plain' and burnt more fuel too. I eventually ownd about 8 of them ..
incredible caractually.
what fun.
trivia question ..
and there might be one vanagon owner that knows the awnser..
( besides me )........name a european mass production car that has a starter that is mounted with one bolt.

What happened to the "people's car?" I guess it's a Kia now since the Chevy Vega (junk engine), Ford Pinto (cremation) Renault (!), Yugo (a real gem) and Suzuki are all gone.
