I use a 'normal' rain gutter mount Yakima on my hatch. Handy because the bikes can stay on with the hatch opened and also the bikes are pretty high so they're less vunerable to people bumping them with their car hoods, etc. With 3 bikes and lots of wheels it is a bit of a load to open the hatch. This has worked for many miles, some pretty long washboard trips. The bikes get real dusty when doing long dirt roads....I have a couple of fork mounts inside on my rear bench seat front...If I am traveling a long or wet day, I bring the bikes inside for the day to keep them cleaner and to reduce the wind drag.
