Don, that's a really clever way to use the Yakima mounts on the hatch. Never thought of mounting them vertically like that. Did you make your own attachment clips or use Yakima ones for attaching the towers?

I'm not going to give up my Gary Lee hatch rack, but I'm sure your setup is waaay lighter than mine. Plus, it would be a great when I need to throw a bike on the back quickly for local trips, as the big rack doesn't normally live on the van. I think I've got an old set of towers around here somewhere...
