Depends completely on the driving .. short trips, cold temps .. very rough on oil. Longer trips, more operation fully warmed up ....is easier on the oil.

in modern cars that usually call for synthetic oil ..where there is a circuit that monitors operating conditons ......some of those , as on a modern mercedes will allow up to 15K between synthetic oil changes. ....depends very much on type of use of course ..

There is also a tendency in new cars to cite low maintaince requirements .. if 'brand new' it says 10K oil changes ..a consumer might be drawn more to a particular car than another.

so 'it depends' . but if wanting to go to 10K miles...I'd say that's only if it's mostly longer distances driven , and a high percentage of the time the engine is fully warmed up. Once fully warmed up, and driven nicely ..there's not much wear.

it's that first half hour that's rough on things. especially in winter.
