K & N air filters are for :

People in a hurry on an engine coversion who don't want to bother to engineer in a proper air box and 'real' paper element filter. ( one design goal of the air box on all modern and semi-modern cars is to subdue air intake noise - some jampanese factory installations have branches of plastic tubing that 'go nowhere' ...their only purpose is to change resonance in the intake track, thus further reducing noise. . ) People who like lots of intake roar. People who think they will get 0.25 more horsepowerusing one. People who don't care about having an actual 'decent' air filter on their engine-one that will work in real dust. People who only drive on pavement in towns and like intake roar.
