AND Patti, to add to the discussion please see here for more information you might find valuable: <www.frankcondelli.com/hdlrrela.htm>

Hi/Lo beam bulbs in the rectangular lens are 9004 and low beam bulbs in the square lens are H3. And, all stock OEM headlights on the 1986 ~ 1991 North American Vanagons had the Hella headlamp lenses with replaceable bulbs. If YOUR 1986 ~ 1991 Vanagon has sealed beam headlights it has been modified or it was built for other than North American delivery and the headlight units would be round sealed beams.

AND, those Hella rectangular lens are now super UNOBTIAINIUM. What we are going to do as they break and or loose their interior reflective coating is the BIG question. I know that Peter Gunzl of the VW Bus Shop and VW Classic Parts have both tried to get Hella to reproduce these units or sell the rights to have them made elsewhere, so far with no luck. So, we are all going to eventually need a solution to this dilemma. Back to the old round headlights but those grills are not readily available either. Anyone with good used units are holding ACES.
