needle rollers inside things like U-joints CAN be lubricated ..
there is a common application where the reqirement is a penetrating
sticky grease...
it's called Motorcycle Chain Lube..
the good kinddoes just that ...it kinda foams up and sinks in ....
and then is very sticky so it won't fly off.
I have kept a rear CV joint on my 1970 Mercedes with split cv joint boot
alive this way for 30 years.
I even like a little split in a ball joint boot as it's a handy way to
apply a sticky pentrating spray lube to the moving parts.
Don't get me started..
I'm areal nut about lubrication .
Take a common sealed bearing ..
oh say roller guide wheels for the timing belt on a subaru engine.
Spin the bearing by handand see what it feels like.
Then shoot the sides of it with a high quality ( usually about 10 bucks
a can ) penetrating spray lube ..
it will go right past the outer seals on the bearing and you can feel
the increased smoothnness easily.
I probably use about 30 kinds of lubes in scores of areas on vanagons.
I can find 50 places on any vanagon that have never been lubed since the
factory ..
way more than that even.
Lubricated metal parts are SO nice.
