It might help to get some terminology straight.  Amperes is an
instantaneous measurement of the current flowing through the system
right now - it's a rate, not an amount.  Multiply amps x volts to get
watts, the instantaneous rate of energy consumption.

  Integrate amperes over time and you get ampere-hours, a partial
measure of energy consumption.  A more accurate measure is
watt-hours, which takes the changing battery voltage into account;
but it's more difficult to measure.
