I replaced one heater box with a used one and one new front heater core on the last 200 vanagons I've worked on. 'mostly' the hang inthere pretty well. I have my own version of lube trick, and I do that every once in a great while. oh wait . ok...my 83 5-speed sunroof diesel vanagon ( FS btw )does have a non-working front fan. so 3 vans out of many many dozens of them.
