Far be it from certain that I might guess exactly what those German engineers had in mind, for certain, when I try to suss-out why they did a particular thing....German auto designers are sometimes on a different planet, in my book...Whatever the reason, the exhaust mounts they put in the diesel vanagons do work well for the diesel motor and if carefully installed, they seem to work well on Gas inline conversions, too.

I had mine hung from the frame, for a year, on rubbers, something like the FAST newest 'plan'...but it was still transmitting lots of noise into the chassis and I really didn't like seeing the end of the tailpipe stay still when the motor rotated...Mine didn't break, hung from rubbers...but it works better now mounted with the diesel exhaust brackets..
