Maybe the rent was raised or they got their property tax bill. Maybe they found they needed to raise the techs rate of pay. A grip I have is that shops charge the same rate whether the "D" oil change guy is working on your vehicle or the "A" super diagnostician auto tranny guy is. If going in project work you can try to negotiate. Many shops will give a break for "fill in" type work just to know they can keep their folks employed. Also if a place has more work than they need raising the rates can both increase profit and reduce the load.

Ya too true; you get what you pay for.

IF, it were true that they use this as a ploy to get clients, that is what I take issue with. I mean ya. Raise your rates in a year maybe? But 3x in 4 months?

I just need to get a place with a shop!
