that's something I've noticed too. maybe it's an aluminum specific reaction ? whereas I can't remember a pre-ethanol gas tank rust from the inside out. of course corrosion happens by accumulated  condensate from metal going cool/cold.  carbs gummed up with old gas - oh yeah - as Scott wrote ; careless owners + rushed, lazy, incompetant mechanics/technicians = recycle/replace economy. I was using Marvel Mystery Oil for years before being introduced to StaBil. also before economists `discovered' that it's actually cheaper to operate a well maintained vehicle.   mike     nothing newer than 88, please and thank you ... ________________________________ From: Tom Hargrave <thargrav@HIWAAY.NET> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Wednesday, December 26, 2012 11:25 PM Subject: Re: E15 fuel? There is a huge difference between pouring a pint of methanol into a 20 gallon tank of gas and pouring 3 gallons into a 20 gallon tank! And for the record, old BMW motorcycles is one of my hobbies and I've seen a white residue in the bottom of the mostly aluminum Bing carburetors that I never saw before gas contained 10% alcohol. And if someone can convince me that this is not the result of corrosion he'd make me a happy man! Thanks, Tom Hargrave
