Michael, if it is making a noise I feel that it is done and you shouldn't try to tighten it as that would probably only accelerate the death of this part.

The inner bearing is a Beetle part, however the outer bearing isn't, it is a Vanagon specific and so is the bearing seal, which you would also want to replace. This is for the 2wd. If you have a Syncro then that is even more of a Vanagon specific bearing and needs more special equipment than the 2wd version to remove and replace. If you can get to a shop, I can express mail these parts down to you via USPS. Usually that is about three days to get to another country and be delivered. I do this all the time for folks so if you are in need just let us know.
