Well, I'm just amazed at all the helpful responses, will reply individually when I get a better connection. 
We did find Saul (actually his son Ruben, as Saul was away) with directions from the parts store as listed in the Roadhaus pages. Saul's cell phone has changed since the 2006 entry, so I will post an update. 
Ruben tool the wheel apart (front right on a 2WD Westy, something I should have said before), re-packed with grease & everything seemed fine. 50 miles down the road the problem is back - definitely the brake pads rubbing as the rotor moves a little, the bearing is a little loose for sure.
Next step will be to tighten & adjust the pean nut. Local parts store here only had the outer bearings which looked fine (so did not replace them).
Will post updates, but for now we're going to the beach (Bahia de Conception, s of Mulege on Sea of Cortez).
