IIRC, on vanagon.com there's a list of *what* people keep in their bus. Maybe info on where too?

Were chains too close to the ECU? Can't imagine mechanic was concerned with adding weight closer to driver side. (which already has lots)

I put stuff wherever I want to. ;) Seriously, it's common sense and what fits ones needs.

The wetwesty list will have suggestions.

Speaking of space, IMO, 2 significant improvements to accessing space. Rear table mod, and rear closet mod. Here's one take on the closet mod:
