I also HAD ISSUES WITH THE PARTS PLACE kEN. They charge you a core even on new parts. I have taken a bunch of GEX motors apart and they were not good later mark d

I would never consider using a GEX engine in anything. They have a terrible reputation. I have never bought an engine from them but I have had many calls from folks who did and then the motor grenaded shortly there after.

I can tell you first hand my experience with vwdiesel.net. I contacted them because we had a 1.9l NA diesel engine that went bad in a customers 82 diesel Westy. VWdiesel.net has a good reputation so I wanted to buy from him. However he no longer sells directly to the public and you have to buy his rebuilds through the Parts Place Inc.

While dealing with the Parts Place Inc for a 1.9l NA diesel engine, it wasn't too bad ordering the engine. The engine arrived in a timely manner and packaged properly. It has been installed and running well for around 5k miles now so the jury is still out on if it will last over time, but I am confident so far. However when we went to return the core engine is when things took a turn for the crazy. When they received the core engine, not only did they refuse to return any core money, they also told us that we owed them another $400 because our core was worse than what they expected it to be! In other words, if we had taken the engine to the scrap yard for junk we would have gotten $50. But we spent $100 shipping it back to the Parts Place only to get charged another $400 because our core was "bad"!

So I will never buy another engine from The Parts Place again. If you are going to charge someone a core cost up front, you need to charge what it would cost if the engine you receive is a total loss. That is the whole point of a core charge in the first place. To ask for more money after returning a core leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

Just wanted to warn you about this experience.
