I don't know. I think German clamps are part of the German car culture, mostly, and American clamps likewise. I don't think anyone has ever reported an engine fire based on the kind of hose clamps they use, but rather the condition of the rubber. That said, I use the German ones because they seem theoretically easier on the rubber under them. I have no proof of that.
