Real different! I'd never heard of a tire > being illegal during a particular season. Many states have times and places where traction tires or chains are required. The most common situation is that the state DOT, Highway Safety Department, or equivalent has the authority to designate those times and places. At those times and places, tires not approved as traction tires are illegal. What is so hard to understand about that? No one has said that tires other than traction tires are always illegal, or illegal in places not designated as requiring them. Here are a couple of examples from states where I drive: http://www.tripcheck.com/Pages/RCMap.asp?mainNav=RoadConditions&staticNav=TractionTires http://apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=204-24-040 mcneely > > > "But I still don't know if the BFG tire in 195/75-14 is approved for > winter.
