My personal experience says to lube ring with a light smear of white lithium grease for smooth operation (had previously used di-electric grease per GoWesty's advice in the referenced article but found it only would last less than a year before re-greasing necessary; it's more of a coating, not really a lubricant, only called "grease" referring to it's consistency).

Also recommend a thorough cleaning (of old hardened grease and debris) and polishing of the mating contact (steel wool or Scotch-brite pad) and a smear of white lithium grease prior to assembly.

So in the midst of tearing everything apart to replace my front heater
blower (success!!!) I somehow got things a little wonky when I put the
steering wheel back on and that contact ring snagged on the little tab and
it tore the ring at the bottom. That's no good.

It there any way to replace that or am I kinda SOL?
