Yes it is a fin-tail body, and it's the one that still has the fender mounted marker lights - a carry-over from the 190 ponton body . The 59 220S I used to own was a ponton body.

Years ago I outfitted my '73 220D with the rims and hubcaps off of my '82 Vanagon diesel. Since they fit and looked so good, I then proceeded to debadge all the MB logos and emblems, and replace them with VW versions...even the horn badge on the steering wheel. I had Wolfsburg crests front and rear as well as a Type III Variant script on the trunk. It got lots of double-takes
