He said you have to carry chains (on certain parts of certain roads in the winter) which is a far different thing from having a tire not be legal in the winter. Real different! I'd never heard of a tire being illegal during a particular season.

"But I still don't know if the BFG tire in 195/75-14 is approved for winter. Even if siped, which would be considered a modification, that would not alter the legal situation. mcneely"

I suspect the "legal" situation for the tire v. season is not a matter of law in Oklahoma? I did want to see some of the state but not if I have to worry about a small town cop stopping me (out of state plate... anyone remember Hoyt Axton & his song "Speed trap'? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRnXgcutfz0 ) on the 1st of March to check my tires for a 'snowflake'.
