Oddly .. it seems to me engines almost never use oil very much anymore. None of my waterboxers do .. I don't drive say 12 to 15 K miles a year anymore .. I also can't think of a time on my over 10 cars I've noticed that they use oil at all.

If that is the rate of consumption in this Zetec.. less than 1 qt per 1,000 .. I'll betcha that is within Ford's acceptible standards warranty-wise.

all manufactuers usually have some 'room' in what they say is OK for new engines regurading oil consumption. because some of them somehow just don't get made as well as other ones .

it would be interesting to check with a Ford Service Dept ... if they actually know that is .. I would be they would say less than a qt of consumption per 1,000 miles is within the acceptible range.
