Further inspection revealed that while they do use the same wire colors for each function, they go to different pins on the back of the radio.

I asked the fellow at the car stereo shop if there were harness adaptors. Apparently not. It's cut and solder.

Nice to see they standardized the wire colors, and the size/form factor of the connector, but not standardizing the pinouts seems silly.

Thanks, all. Friday's over and this thread contains zero (goose egg, zilch, nada, nuttin') Vanagon content.
