I like that repair idea better than what I did:

Cutting the hole in the patch wasn't rocket surgery but starting with
a nice round hole makes more sense.

If Bretts radius arm is damaged like mine was:

if a weldor made a pass then shaped, would that be structurally
sufficient? Or even required?
