Subject: Broken Head Bolt
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8

Need some advice! This morning I was replacing one of the head gaskets, on my 2.1 vanagon engine, everything was going fine until I was torquing down the head bolts and one of them snapped and my heart sank...not a good feeling. I quickly removed the head and cleaned up everything including the rubber gasket and then just sat there assessing what just happened and asking myself "Now what am I going to do"? The bolt snapped off pretty low leaving about an inch. This is my first attempt at replacing the head gaskets and just learning as I go and I know there's a lot of experienced members of this forum and I'm hoping that you all might have some good advice for me. Thanks, Bob Boston, MA

In Alabama, even if you are the most redneck of rednecks - with your car in front of your house trailer sitting up on blocks with the engine out after the car died - if you have a title, it is supposed have current registration and if registered must have a current tag or license. If it is licensed, it must have liability insurance. The annual tag serves as the property tax. Of course nobody with a vehicle up on blocks ever does all that - but it is the law! Screwy!
