I don't think a cat or dog could break a leg in a mouse trap. A rat trap, yes, but not a mouse trap. I have been snapped by a mouse trap many times. My finger hurt, but it wasn't injured beyond a trivial bruise. I would not want a child to get snapped, but not everyone has children around, or pets either for that matter. I put mouse traps along the wall in the garage in winter. Try as I might, I can't stop all the entrance places. My mice are not house mice, but instead are _Peromyscus_, known variously as white footed, white ankled, or deer mice depending on species. They only enter homes and outbuildings during cold weather. mcneely
