In some cases the correct term is 'DPO' . as in Dreaded Previous Owner .

I have a white 91 GL , Tiico conversion , like that.. oil never changed until to threw a rod. trans oil never changed for sure. seat armrests so busted up you couldn't get them that way if you had to.

some people just do not take care of stuff. and vanagons are so worthy of reasonable care.. and I must say .. vanagons can keep soldiering on despite terrible abuse and neglect. I consider it an excellent and very well made body ... really robust chassis/suspension ...easy to work on ...

I consider vanagons to be 'the best overall' vehicle ever produced by VW .. especially when you consider how many thousands and thousands of them there are, and all that they can be made into as well.

but watch out for that DPO ! scott turbovans
