Standard water-cooled method is to use two relays, each powered directly from the B+ (30) circuit of the alternator by way of the terminal post inside the connector box on the firewall. The first one is controlled by ignition switch circuit 15 to power the ECU, and the second one is commanded from inside the ECU to power the fuel pump. Thus the 15 circuit wire going to the rear only has to supply ?200 mA? to that first relay to operate it, along with a few amps intermittent for the coil.. The rest of the ECU/fuel pump power comes straight from the battery. I looked at the '83-4 drawing but the rest are similar.
