Hi Jack . speaking of this relative smartness.. surely you see that the areas between the wheels ..fore-aft wise that is .. are more vuvulnerable to getting hitthan thing right near the wheels.

the areas exactly between the wheels are less prone to being impacted...like say a differential on a solid rear axle car .. 'mostly' it goes over the bumps with the wheels.

Tthe areas at the ends.. inwhat is called the Departure Angle ......like a subaru engine with a stock depth oil pan ..which is about a foot behind the rear axle line ......that sticks right down into the departure angle area ..and is thus easily hit on something.

HEY ..AT LEAST YOU FOUND IT !! That's a whole hellava lot better than going nuts replacing things or going after the wrong stuff. I always thought that it's quite a good connection and LATCH system on Vanagon ecu's too. I always barely mist those connectors in the plug part with you-know-what too.

Yeah ..but didn't you miss part of the game ? The second half was very interesting to say the least. Glad yer back running.
