Warrantys don't impress me.
All that means is that they will reluctantly deal with it as minimally
as they can get away with for up to one year.
At year one plus a day they say 'oh too bad.'
Idealt with too engine warraty deals recently ..
one was on a 'good used' AAZ 1.9 TD ..the supplier was 'mostly ok' to
deal with ..
things drug on for quite a while ..in the beginning they said they'd
supply new rings, new bearings, new head gasket and head bolts..when it
got right down to it I heard the words. 'even in germany where they are
picky they re-use the head bolts' ..
plus the guy was a bit insulting about my address. Not a pleasant
experience. And a set head bolts would cost him about 12 bucks. Heck
..goodwill is worth 10 times a measly 12 bucks. Very poor move on their
part IMO.
In another case....well known company ..I had to hassle *all day* with
them on the phone..
and they were so obivously trying to get out of it as cheaply as
possible...they ended up payng for me to install a USED valve spring on
their new wbxr engine. I will never do any warranty repair for anyone
with that company again.
I would have been miles ahead to never do that job ..very stressful
.....they were insulting too.
I can tell about another one...a 15,000 dollar engine conversion job
..customer got 3 yrs and 20K out of the clutch ..
and it wasn't the driver's fault at all ..it was the design of the
conversion parts..
I asked them 'what if the clutch fails in 13 months..
'with glee' ppractically the guy says 'then we charge them the full rate
to put in a new one' ..
warranties don't mean beans really ..or the barely do.
I won't mention two other cases , very similar, that come to mind.
All, a say 6 months warranty means is, 'we'll sort of try to help you
during that period' ..
I have never seen a warranty deal where they say 'oh dang ...we'll take
care of you right away.'
Sofar ineachcase,. it's been closer to the opposite of that.
