Here's a fun little bit of information about Timken roller bearings, maybe . . . One of my ancestors, a great uncle with the last name Tipton, actually invented that tapered roller bearing. He built them out of wood, for wind and water mills. Henry Timken saw the roller bearings in one of the mills, somewhere in Missouri, I think, though it could have been in Texas, and started making them out of steel. My ancestor wasn't so concerned about getting a patent on his design, but Henry did, and now Timken brings in over $5 billion a year in revenues and employs over 21,000 people.
