Right. I was too quick to post. I clearly have been thinking "relay" too much these days.

Thought VW may have added a relay to the wiper washer circuit to carry load to extra motor. But those motors are small. If I'm not mistaken, (in '81 and '88 diagrams) the relay isn't used to carry power to the front windshield washer motor.
