The 2.1 models do not use a different fan unless they also have factory A/C or are Syncros. Those both use a much larger fan motor and lager wires to feed it with a direct power feed from the battery for highest speed. The larger fan motor setup uses a resistor to create lower speeds. A/C models have a 2 speed resistor to create 2 lower speeds in addition to full direct speed, for 3 speeds total. Syncros without A/C use a large single speed resistor to create 1 lower speed, so 2 speeds total.

Bentley page 97.200 shows the Syncro 2 speed large fan motor system. The various A/C diagrams show the various 3 speed versions.
