Oops, I posted this to the diesel vanagon group but meant to post it to
this one.

Subject: Re: All 2 Speed Radiator Fans Use Internal Resistor?
To: diesel-vanagon <Diesel-Vanagon@yahoogroups.com>
I recently had someone call about a radiator that I have. I took the fan,
condenser and wiring harness off of it. I tossed the shroud in the trash as
I have a couple of them already anyway and more and more limited room to
keep stuff. I saved the rest of it. Then I read this thread and saw that
the shroud only fits the three-speed motor, not the two-speed.
So, in the interest of the possibility of upgrading my diesel westy to
something that will power an AC system someday, I saved the shroud and put
everything back on the shelf, including the wiring harness which is where
the resistor plugs in to the motor. I presume that the thermo switch is
different, too, the one that screws into the radiator?
Is that a "true fact," do the late model motors only fit late model
shrouds? I thought the difference was between 82 diesel vanagons and
everything else, not the two and three speed motors. Let me know so I can
sort this out.
Thanks,
Jim
