Oh yeah, it is both good and bad. I have been running an ad on Craigslist trying to rent the mother-in-law suite on the back of my house. I have gotten DOZENS of replies asking simply "Is the room still available?" I answer back "Yes" then I get a reply back "That's great! Let me tell you about myself. I am a 24 year old female, I just got my masters degree, speak 5 languages, volunteer at the local orphanage, help small animals, and I like to read and ride my bike in my spare time. I am currently living in Europe, but I have accepted a position with a company in your area, and will be moving there in 3 weeks. My dad will be paying all my bills until I get established, so please send me your full name, bank info, blah, blah, blah, so my dad can send you payment for the rent" Seriously? Is there anyone out there that is really that stupid? Once, and only once, I answered back "please send me your phone number so I can call you" and I got the answer "I'd love to, but I am currently switching between cell phone carriers". All the BS aside, I have had a lot of luck with both buying and selling on CL, but it does get frustrating at times. The other night my phone rang, and the caller told me I just won a contest and could he please have my credit card number to charge the processing fee so I could get my "prize" I laughed ad told this idiot that this was one of the oldest scams going and hung up-he called back 7 times!! He actually started screaming at me that this was no scam and "Please give me your credit card number NOW!" I only kept answering the phone because I was getting a good laugh over the whole thing. I did recently inquire about a Vanagon on CL and got the reply "Thanks you for inquiring about the van. I am currently out of town caring for my sisters son as she was seriously injured in a car accident and is in the hospital. I have hired a service to handle the sale of the van, please contact them about making payment...." I guess these scams must still work on some people. One of my favorites though was years ago, a cousin of mine was trying to unload a very high priced conversion van she had owned for about 6 months. She ran an ad to sell it, and a guy called who said he worked for a company that would find someone to take over the payments. He came to her house, had her sign some papers, she handed him the keys and he drove off with the van-and, are you surprised... he was never heard from again!!  As I recall, her insurance refused to pay, saying the van had not really been "stolen", as she gave him the keys! This was in Corpus Christie Texas, and I'm sure that van was in Mexico in no time. And the funniest thing people who have been scammed say? "He was such a nice man" Of course he was, if he had been a jerk you wouldn't have given him all your money!
