the '90-'91 non-GL vanagons had that grey tweed.

Was it wool? I looked it up, and all the dictionaries I consulted define tweed as being a heavy wool fabric with a coarse weave. My '91 GL Campmobile has gray viscose, velour like fabric seats. The stuff wears like iron, mine is original, 170K miles on the chassis, cleans up to look like new.
