I see what you mean. And as with the horse carriage you pointed me to,
things do wear out.

Looking again in daylight, I see the section of covered wire won't be
that long. The socket location looks useful. At the very least I will
have run a wire to that area for a surface mount light. This has been
needed for some time.

And of  course these circuits are fused pre relay.
