I now see the side rubber bushing. In my case, thought the doubled up
washers at each end are there to compensate for roof shape and luggage
rack shape differences. FWIW, the raised body lip where the canvas
attaches must help in keeping water out. (at least this is what I
noticed while washing the roof)

I'll read Bentley again. As-is though, AFAIK, no leaks at that join.

I see white caulking between each body hole and bolt. Seems like a
good thing to make sure those are sealed well.
