If youare familiar with Yazi Ginger Vodka from Hood River OR .. the cap with built-on cork makes a perfect rear firewall plug for those holes.

from Wikipedia .. Currently one of few ginger <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginger> flavored vodkas <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vodka> on the market, Yazi contains four different species of ginger <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginger>, an aphrodisiac <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphrodisiac>, along with lemon <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemon>, orange <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_%28fruit%29>, cayenne <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cayenne> and red pepper <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chili_pepper>.^[1] <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yazi_Ginger_Vodka#cite_note-1> It is named after the Chinese dragon <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_dragon>, a symbol <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbol> of strength and confidence, which is etched on the perfume-inspired bottle.^[2] <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yazi_Ginger_Vodka#cite_note-2>

That symbol is also on the red cap .. and brings good fortune and strength to your Vanagon when you remove the rear heater and hoses for itand plug the holes with the caps . Need two bottles for two caps though. And if you just had to in an emergency, you could use it to lower the freezing point of your coolant...the ginger vodka. But what a waste ! :-)

Since I (1) seldom have rear seat passengers, (2) don't use the camper much in winter, and (3) am pretty tolerant of cold, especially when in a vehicle, where I just dress warmly, I removed the heater and ran the heater lines straight forward. That gave me more storage room under the seat. Of course, that left two holes in the bulkhead behind the storage. I sealed them. If I or some future owner wants to put the heater back in, the holes can be easily opened again. mcneely > >> >> On 3/3/2013 11:51 AM, Finn Runyon wrote: >>> Our van is nearly ready to hit the road after a year's work to rebuild the engine. I bought this one with a blown engine. The rear heater os leaking, and I am wondering if the valve tends to leak, the O ring, the core? If there is a most common failure I will do that or do generally rebuild the whole unit? The valve defiantly is leaking. >>> Thanks, >>> Finn Runyon >>> 87 Westy Roo >>> 89 Westy Pooh >>> 12 GTI Autobahn > -- > David McNeely >
