You have to make careful arrangements ahead of time so that the pull
is controlled and the lever won't jump toward you when it comes
free.  IIRC that typically means using the thumbs to push against the
panel rather than applying tension with the arms; or something
similar.  I've taken quite a number of them off, and only broke the first one.
