I had a similar issue on my '86. I did fix the brunt of the problem, but
it still happens on some of the pumps. I suppose I'm a bit less ambitious
than some. When filling the tank, when I know intuitively that it is
almost filled, I slow the flow and listen. You can hear the sound of the
fill change easily as it approaches the filler, and simply click off. I
admit this is the lazy guy solution...but it works.
