This job is more fun than a barrel of monkeys! Drive until you are nearly out of gas, raise the front on stands and drain the rest out though the outlet. The two expansion tanks were glued on in my '85 with undercoating and difficult to pry loose. After you drop them use a heat gun to soften the hard plastic lines where they connect to the nipple on the valve or you will break the nipple off and have to buy another vent valve like I did. Install the valve grommets with silicone spray for lube, same for the fill pipe and any other connections you have trouble installing.

Replace the rubber fuel lines too if you haven't already done that. Plan on a full weekend for both jobs, but you'll feel so much better when you are done.

Archives work great now in my experience, searches are really fast (seconds) and you can limit the number of returns using keywords effectively.

-----Original Message----- On Behalf Of Don Hanson...84 2wd..

I know this may be somewhere in the archives. I have never found the archives useable, so I am just List-asking straight out...

My 84 has always had a slight gas odor after filling to the top...and not just from the usual 'spitting-up' that frequently seems to happen when you use the gas pump's auto shut-off feature... I've just been 'living with it' forever, thinking it was not so big a deal, but I recently noticed, after filling up, there was actually a small pool of gasoline under my van, and more still dripping out....Dunno whether this has been going on all along and I just noticed, or maybe the leak/overflow problem is getting worse....but not that I've seen this, I want to take care of the problem...

Can someone point me to the fix for this problem, which I assume is frequent with our older vans, rotting hoses, etc...Thanks Don Hanson
