Same thing happened to me on my 85 about 4 years ago. Was on roadtrip 1000 miles from home, so added motel bill to the repair expenses. I would advise also replacing the left side rotor as well and new pads while you're at it....brakes like to be balanced in terms of wear I think. And when was last time brake fluid was changed?; got to do every 2 years since it absorbs moisture and rusts things from the inside out as well as getting spongy. My shop was able to get a junkyard spindle for $100, I think they are a lot more if new. Now I make sure to get front wheel bearings repacked every 30K miles. The grinding, wiggling and smell was coming from exploded passenger side wheel bearings. They say I need a new right front rotor, new inner and outer wheel bearings and grease seals (both sides) and possibly a new spindle. Now..... talk amongst yourselves and post your ideas!
