I don't know about the MAF vs MAP sensor...whatever the vanagon uses, that is what I think I have....they just stuck some pipe onto the end of the Vanagon air filter assembly to run the intake around to the throttle body of the inline motor....There is a rectangular box between the filter and the rest of the 'plumbing' that has a long flat many wire plug....

I do have a 3 wire O2 sensor. That may be a contributing factor as it is now about 60k miles old and runs on only one of the two downpipes I have into my cat-less custom exhaust......"cooling down too much" on the O2 sensor, that could also be part of the issue, I suppose....It does seem slightly more likely to hesitate when it is really cold outside, or when I am up in the high mountains...

I'll be working on all these 'possibles' soon. I have a spare new O2 sensor that should go in anyhow and some adjusting of the throttle switch is probably also due...as you say, it is a wear-item, being mechanical....

On a different note, the van behaves like a "Sports Car" without all that weight I was toting around all winter....
