I always found the easiest drop-in performance boost on the van was a two-week cruise on a four-knot sailboat.

The only snag was that one time the day after coming off a cruise, driving down a straight highway in the Westy, I said to my wife "Take over a minute, will you?" and started to get up to make a pot of coffee. That was a downright strange feeling when reality shifted back.
