IIRC, the wire doesn't go down the pillar. It should continue on a "straight" path to the dome light area. Image of mine. Looking up at where dome light mounts:

FWIW, on my '81, I re-purposed the supply wire from dash fuse box to fridge etc so it was a load wire from aux. battery. Moved end of wire at fuse box to the interior light-cig outlet-radio circuit. I believe something similar can be done for later model years but method and wiring is different.

And if for any reason you wanted to do things another way, on my '81 there's a connector to the kitchen light about 1' rearward from driver side pillar (by driver shoulder) up above the spice rack behind the ~ 3" tall panelling bit. Your light is over the stove? Still. That connector may be there.
