Hey Neil, no flies on you, yes the poles were labelled. Actually came with a red dot on one face. As you look at the pad from inside the van, the left top and bottom, and centre top and bottom have same poles facing out. The centre magnets are actually off centre a bit to account for fold. The right most magnets top and bottom have the opposite poles facing out. This means the right hand edge of the pad can be folded back to either the centre magnets, or the left most magnets.

Doing it this way is a little cooler I think, than not bothering with polarity. It is a nice action, the magnets grab each other, locate each other dead on.
