Cool enough to steal........

I think the people on the Baja that like these are not your thieves. The thieves like the domestic 4 wheel drive trucks. We look like travelers with limited means in 25 year old vehicles. The value of a Vanagon down there would not justify the risk in my view. On our many trips to the Baja we had but one incidence of smash and grab. That was in Ensenada and we went out for dinner and got back to our vehicle after dark. They had smashed the sliding door window and mad off with some goodies. This happens in my own city a lot! Much to my surprise our home insurance covered it! If I was a thief in Mexico a old Vanagons wouldn't interest me. I think the Mexicans appreciate people seeing their country in a small VW as opposed to someone driving a huge RV. I think they relate to small and making do with little. I'm speaking of the general populace here and not thieves!
